The New & Shiny TGONet Blog

Engine room’s log

The new and shiny TGONet blog shows up. Some notes about the setup:

  • hookup WordPress at local hosted raspberry/dietpie instance, will be show up under https://tgonet.de/blog,
  • do some privacy settings (remove, if possible all external dependencies),
  • polish the surface,
  • write first blog entry (this one),
  • do some legal stuff (stupid German law demand legal notice and data protection notes), including copyright notes.

In Detail:

  1. Install WordPress via dietpi-software: (dietpi SW installation hints for WordPress) at local tgonet.de raspberry hardware.
  2. Logging in, start installation process for WordPress and test fresh installation.
  3. After install process, move whole WordPress folder to tgonet.de/blog:
    • Important: First change it in the blog settings menu:
      – WordPress Address (URL): https://tgonet.de/blog
      – Site Address (URL): https://tgonet.de/blog
    • Move it (ssh in to raspberry):
      – from: /var/www/wordpress
      – to: /var/www/blog
  4. Check: Is it running?
    • via local ip:
      →check, ok
    • via tgonet.de/wordpress:
      →check, ok
    • https is working
      →check, ok
  5. Privacy Setting:
    • Install plugin Remove IP (no IP Logging for Comments, just in case I will use later),
    • Install plugin Clearfy (a tweak utility ) and disable everything connected to the outside and not from tgonet.de/gohle.de, especially all google stuff
    • disable comments global (maybe I will enable it later)
    • check via website via umatrix plugin what will be loaded from outside tgonet.de (if yes: Eleminate)
    • WP Super Cache (php is fine, but static html is better, especially on a blog running on a raspberry)
Mhm, doesn’t work, Test shows some errors, different to first install at lokal test machine), therefore disabled temporaly
    • 6. Write this blog post 🙂

Will be continued, the annoying, time consuming legal stuff (legal and privacy notice) needs to be done :-(.

  • Addendum, personal note:
    • I need to check if there is a markdown plugin. this editor is a little bit annoying.
→plugin site shows some, lets try out
    • Check mobile appearance
    • add to tgonet:
      • backup blog content
      • restart homepage @ gohle.de
